The Weight Loss Twins weighed into the competition at 361lbs and 334lbs. Jim and Bill had been large guys all their lives. The Weight Loss Twin's father, George, was a big man too and had died of obesity related sicknesses when they were children. Despite this, Jim was an active guy, a dedicated fire-fighter and cop who ejoyed joining in and play with his youngsters. He didn't consider his own size was a big obstacle. His wife, Val, was a big woman too. Just like a lot of folks, they loved to eat. As Jim puts it, when you reach 295lbs you just come to accept your obesity and keep on eating..
That's until the moment when your size starts to get in the way of your folks's happiness! It was when his sixteen year old son, a keen eagle scout, ultimately got himself and his pa to take part on an exciting adventure trip, that Jim suddenly saw that his obesity could be a massive problem. While they were on a rigorous training session, when the coach found out that Jim weighed over 300lbs, he had to disqualify father and son from the trip. It turned out that the helicopters weren't capable of evacuating anyone with a weight of over 250lbs. His son was so sad he was in tears all the way home. He loved Jim but he realised that his father had let him down. As far as Jim was concerned this was a slap in the face, his "Ahaa moment" and he determined to do something about it - by becoming one of the weight loss twins.
So together, the Germanakos brothers, the Weight Loss Twins, went on The Biggest Loser. In the first 5 weeks Jim managed to shed 54 lbs. Next he was eliminated from the competition. During the next 6 months at home, thru dedication and doggedness, he shed another 133lbs. He couldn't have done it without the love and support of his wife, Val, who also shed 50lbs. The Weight Loss Twins went on to win the competition. Bill was the series winner and Jim scooped the "Winner of losers" prize.
Since that time the Weight Loss Twins have been interviewed on TV shows such as Larry King Live and Entertainment Tonight and have been given nation-wide affection and approbation. They've quite rightly become stars in their own field. Particularly they will soon be gaining celebrity in the video-gaming arena when they are seen as characters in the enormously popular Nintendo Wii series. Most importantly in the time since they were winners in the show both the Weight Loss Twins have shown they are able to retain most of the wonderful weight reduction they achieved when they were on The Biggest Loser.
