The Power of Meditation

Meditation has been reported to give several beneficial results to its practitioners, both novice and adept. From stress relief, to the treatment of mild depression, to the lowering of blood pressure, the power of meditation is immense and increasingly sought after.

Traditionally meditation was conceived as one of the eight steps in the ladder of yoga. Dhyan is the original Sanskrit word the ancient yogis gave to the practice that we today call meditation. Many people are familiar with the term “zen”, which is nothing more than “dhyan” in a Sino (Chinese) language.

While many people today utilize the power of meditation for the above mentioned health reasons, the power of meditation is such that it was traditionally conceived as a way towards self-actualization and enlightenment. Though these may sound like lofty ideas to us today, who amongst us does not desire to delve deeply into our innermost being and discover what we are really all about? Well, you can do that through the power of meditation. Meditation is not a religion. In fact, meditation spans across all religions, cultures and traditions – both theistic and non-theistic. How did Einstein “discover” the law of gravity? Through meditation! Don’t believe me? Scientists and great thinkers like Einstein utilize the power of their minds to focus intently upon what it is they wish to discover. That, my friends, is the power of meditation.
