Does exercise help you to get rid of gynecomastia? Well, yes, to a certain extent. But it's important to understand that the underlying causes of the condition need to be approached in different ways.

How does the condition come about? Well, for most of us it starts at puberty, when the male body is undergoing substantial change in response to hormone fluctuations. In some of us, as well as testosterone levels increasing, causing our voices to break, genitals to grow, facial hair to develop etc., estrogen levels also increase. This has the effect of laying down extra tissue on our chests. Remember, this tissue is not fat. If you were a woman, this tissue would go on to become milk-producing tissue. You can get rid of some of the fat on your chest. But when we exercise to lose fat, the fat is usually lost at pretty much the same rate, all over our bodies. So general exercise is unlikely to have a marked effect on your chest. You will need specially developed exercises.

You will probably discover that push-ups are ineffective. They are not able to work-out the correct muscles. Swimming is better, especially if you use breast stroke rather than front crawl. But this has the tendency to build up the shoulder muscles and not the muscles of the chest.

One exercise that I tried was to lie on the back, on the floor with arms outstretched sideways. Then to raise 4 pound weights up above my head, one hundred times each day. This did seem to improve the muscles of my chest, but, I have to say, it didn�t do much for getting rid of the fat. It just shows that if you go about something like this on a do it yourself basis, then you are almost certain to be doomed to failure. And the problem with that is that when we fail at something we become disillusioned and disheartened. Then we give up. The secret is to use a process that works from day one.
