Cancer Survivors

According to Macmillan Cancer Support, a cancer survivor is someone “living with beyond cancer”. Beating cancer is always a Herculean task and those who manage to do it always find it to be a life-changing experience. Surviving cancer always gives the survivors renewed determination and spirit to face other tough challenges in life. For example by beating cancer the survivor may get new impetus to try out events such as the marathon or even mountain climbing

Sometimes the experience is so overwhelming for the survivors that they take a critical look at their lives and they try to change their ways as well their perspectives on certain things in life. Some cancer survivors may try to mend broken relationships in their lives or even reconcile with an estranged family member.

After treatment, the survivors may have psychological as well as medical challenges. These challenges may vary from individual to individual. Even if the cancer has completely cured survivors eventually struggle emotionally from the trauma of cancer. Others are always anxious and worried and have to grapple with the idea that they may never be cured or the disease could even recur.

Often even if the cancer has entirely cured, the survivor may need medical monitoring and therefore medical tests may be scheduled as a precautionary measure if the cancer recurs. The cancer survivors may also have long term side effects as a result of the treatment. Some like those who have had surgery may require extensive rehabilitation for mobility and function.
