Home Remedies For Acne. Are They Really Workable?

For all acne sufferers out there, before you buy your first over-the-counter topical cream or approach the doctor for a prescription you might want to try out home remedies for acne first. They are most probably already somewhere in your home right now or they would cost quite little to get. Some companies know that acne sufferers would be very desperate to get rid of their condition regardless of money at the shortest time possible, and that is why there are so many products at high prices but produce little.

What is the benefit of home remedies as compared to medication? Firstly, home remedies are natural, they are definitely much cheaper, and they are very convenient to use right at home (well most of the times yea, it depends). However, does being cheaper means that they would be lousier than medication? Sometimes yes and sometimes no.

There are a lot of popular home remedies to eliminate acne which you could find in the internet and I will list them here and give it a review as well.

Toothpaste <- I believe many of you would have heard of the toothpaste method to eliminate pimples by putting it over the spot on your face before sleep and leave it there till the next day and you will be amazed etc. There are people who swear by this method however, there are even MORE who says this worsens their condition because it actually leaves a mark on their face which takes a long time to go off. I don't recommend this, it is very risky.

Lemon Juice (with rosewater) <- A very famous method as well is to apply lemon juice with the same amount of rosewater over the pimple or scar to eliminate them. It is natural all right, and ok to use if you don't overdo it or else your skin will be very irritated from all the acidity and your acne WILL worsen.

Fresh Mint Juice <- This method is quite reputable. Apply mint juice all over your face. It did worked for me. You can give it a try and test the results.

Blending Orange Peels <- Blend or mash pieces of orange peels with some water to form a paste and apply it all over your face or just on the affected areas for 30 minutes . It is an economical mask. You can try cucumber and tomatoes as well. Use them individually or all together.

Nutmeg <- Nutmeg definitely works with a lot of people giving their testimonials for it. Basically, you blend nutmeg and milk together to form a paste and apply it over your face to kill those nasty pimples.

Salt / Vinegar <- Some people recommends using salt water or vinegar or both at the same time to apply on your face for about 30 minutes before washing off. I don't recommend this at all. Both of them are actually super irritants to our facial skin. Salt is EXTREMELY drying, if you use it and your face (the surface) becomes very dry, your face would think that there is not enough of oil (when it is already producing excessivly for most people) and shoot up its production levels. Now your would have even more pimples than before trust me. Vinegar is quite about the same, it is an irritant that is usually used for healing scars instead. Although not as bad as using salt, it is not recommended too.

Honey / Aloe Vera <- This 2 can help with your acne condition to a certain degree especially aloe vera, they are good moisturisers too.

Garlic <- You can try this if you can stand it, it worked for many people and is quite popular. Rub garlic cloves a few times a day on the spot. Ouch.

Avocado <- Mix avocado paste with water and apply to your face. You can try this, I haven't tried this on myself before but I don't think it would have any adverse effect on your face.

Egg Whites <- The ever popular method that is very gentle on your face which is usually used as a natural face mask to moisturise your face and exfoliate it in a very small degree. It wouldn't help much for pimples.

Yogurt & Oatmeal <- Mix them together into a paste and apply. Wait till dry and wash off. This method's effectiveness isn't there, however, there isn't any adverse effect and it is a good mask and moisturiser as well.

There you have it, give me comments on how you think of these home remedies! Maybe you have your own to share as well!
