The council is planning to redevelop the town centre by building new shops, restaurants and car parks to attract new clientele and prospective retailers to the town.
Roger Begy a senior member of the Welland board was obviously pleased with the grant. "A grant for 270,000 was definitely made. It is excellent news for Bourne.
"It is a terrible economic time at the moment, so if Bourne has got some capital behind it, it may be able to get a better price for the land it wants to buy."
This money has been made available after the partnership had under spent the available cash. Other plans for the grant include purchasing land and building property for people looking to rent property in Stamford and Bourne. Neil Cuttell the Economic manager believes that it might not be so cut and dry. "It could be that there are conditions attached to the grant but any money we get is positive news for Bourne and the core area development."
Discussions are going on between local landlords and tenants who are currently living within the area that is planned for refurbishment as purchasing the land and going through with the current project could set the council back 4m. These things can take time and the projected finishing date for completion is late 2012
