Medics have recommended people suffering from the irritable bowel syndrome for a long time a diet rich in fiber. This is an efficient treatment for those whose main symptom on IBS is constipation. However, this recommendation is not appropriate for those who suffer from diarrhea as the symptoms may worsen. Just like with any diet change, if your medic had advised you to increase the fiber in your diet, be sure to gradually make the changes. Also make sure to drink a lot of fluids, at least 1.5 liters per day (water, diluted tea, or natural juices. Avoid as much as you can caffeinated drinks such as coffee, and carbonated soft drinks).
People suffering from IBS said that they witnessed an increase in symptoms’ frequency and intensity after having a large, rich in fat meal. It is recommended to eat slowly and fewer aliments at a meal. Before a meal try doing light exercises and relax after the meal.
If one of the symptoms related to the irritable bowel symptom is excessive flatulence, you should avoid some foods known to produce gas from your diet, such as broccoli, cauliflower, cabbage, beans. You can return them in your diet, in small amounts, once the symptoms have ameliorated. Be sure to avoid carbonated drinks and coffee, as they too can increase the amount of gas produced. Be sure to spread your fluids intake throughout the day.
You may also try to remove the lactose from the diet (try removing milk and ice creams), as some patients suffering from the irritable bowel syndrome have witnessed an ameliorated state.
Another cause for IBS can be certain food sensitivity. If you know that irritable bowel syndrome symptoms appear immediately after you eat certain foods, you may have a food sensitivity or allergy. Try avoiding these foods in the future and see if the symptoms re-appear. There are food allergies tests which you can take to see if you have such an allergy.
