There are Boutiques and there are the devils own Boutiques

The V doll boutiques
A lot of words come to mind when one mentions Bangkok. Hotels, Sky rise, sky trains, hotels, conference rooms, angels and shopping. The angel bit comes from its other name “The City of Angels” which is in fact part of one of the longest names for a city in the world. When we think of shopping in Bangkok the common thoughts of clothes shops, souvenir shops, jewellery shops and of course electronic shops all come to mind. But thanks to three university students from the North of Thailand, a very new trend has emerged; voodoo boutiques and voodoo shopping. Three young lads were trying to gain popularity amongst the co-eds at a University in the North of Thailand, and they did so by making dolls with messages attached. These dolls were meant to be cute Hello Kitty types but were so strange looking that they wound up being branded as voodoo magic dolls. Without realizing it, they had a started a fad amongst the students that was soon to spread not just nationally, but internationally too. Voodoo dolls became so popular they became a sought after item all over the world. And with this came voodoo theme boutiques cropping up all over, the seventy odd voodoo doll range being a main part of the shops’ themes.
One hotel boutique manager said that. “These 2 inch tall critters are so popular, I sell more of these than any other item!”. Popular amongst children and adults alike, they can be used as key chains, handbag danglers or even room ornaments; they can apparently also be used to cast spells on someone you love or hate-if you believe that kind of thing that is. Unfortunately though, some people have taken this too far, last year they became such a fad in China that the Central government authorities tried to ban the sale of them from Beijing retailers on the basis that “the dolls encourage superstition and promote feudalism and feudal beliefs.” Thailand on the other-hand feels less superstition and the dolls still remain a popular souvenir. The next time you are in Bangkok why not see the sights, do the tours then check out the shopping. Choose a convenient hotel, one that is central but not too far from the main drag. There are plenty of 4 or 5 star type hotels which can offer holiday shoppers a chance to relax, shop and relax some more. Hotels like the Tai-Pan hotel in the centre of Bangkok offers transport, tours and great tourist information- they will make your stay a magical one. Ideal for convenient access to the rest of Bangkok, the Tai-Pan hotel located just off the Asoke and Sukhumvit roads is a perfect location. Green Leaf certified this hotel is set off away from the hullaballoo of Bangkok and features 146 spacious rooms and suites of five star standards. For all the needs of holiday makers and business people alike, its staff, its rooms and facilities come as one luxury package and include an all purpose gym and a pool.
