My Network Marketing Experience with the Cold Market

When I started in Network Marketing, I started much like anybody else. We talked to our warm and hot markets. We didn’t find any diamonds in that group, at least not yet. After working at this for about 7 months, we decided we would pursue the cold market. After all, as seasoned successful upline distributors had told us, “the cold market are friends you haven’t met yet.”

I worked for a small company at the time and didn’t have a lot of contact with new people so I decided to buy leads. It seemed like a fabulous opportunity, I could create momentum by talking to 20 people in a week. Momentum would be realized if they would only answer the phone. But this is not where I wanted to go with this article.

I did connect with some of these people. I met wonderful people with the highest intentions for their family. I met a single mom, with four children. Two were already out of the house. The other two were twin girls in high school. The girls are very bright and the goal is Howard University. Events conspired in her extended family and she was unable to pursue my opportunity at that time.

I called another gal who had some serious health issues. Our company manufactures a product that helps people with serious and other health issues. She was interested and was scheduled to come to a presentation. That day, her husband, the bread winner in the family, injured himself at work and was taken to the hospital. Surgery was scheduled. A long hospital stay was predicted. I called her a couple of months later and her husband was still under care in a medical facility.

There was another couple that I called at least eight times with no answer. Finally, they answered on number nine. They had been moving and that is why it was hard to reach them. “Bud” was interested but wanted girlfriend “Anna” to be able to join him for the presentation because they wanted to do the business together. She was at work. We did the presentation over the computer. They were interested. What we didn’t know at the time is that they both have serious chronic health issues.

It turns out Bud has a heart condition, Atrial Fibrillation Tachycardia (rapid heart beat), and Anna has a mild case of Cystic Fibrosis. They are 21 and 19 years old respectively. Both of them are in danger of a reduced life span. I found this heartbreaking and overwhelming at first.

Our products help both of these issues. We have a heart health product that helps Bud. And, an arthritis product that reduces mucus and inflammation for Anna. They realized the benefits and became distributors.

I started my Network Marketing business primarily because I wanted to help people. My job didn’t allow me to do that and I was increasingly unhappy. I am now in a position where I can help this young couple with their health. And that means, as we are learning, possibly extending their lives. And, I can help them build a business.

Don’t minimize the concept of helping people as a benefit to Network Marketing. It can be hugely rewarding. This is an equal opportunity business available to all. Who might you meet if you start a business? Whose life might you impact?

Dream a bigger dream! Become engaged in this world. The world needs what you have to offer. It is worth your time to take a look.
