Clickbank is the best place for newbies to start. All new affiliates should start their marketing with Clickbank as it's the easiest to get going with. The tools and services they provide are great.
And like most affiliate programs, it costs nothing to join. Clickbank fees only apply if you have products of your own to sell, and are very reasonable at under $50.
Clickbank deals only with digital products because they are all downloadable on the Internet. If you want to sell physical products, as either an affiliate or an owner, you need to go to other networks such as Commission Junction.
The sales commissions offered by the merchants selling their products on Clickbank are mostly very high, ranging from 20% to 70%, so you can expect to average 50% on all your sales. The reason the Clickbank commissions are so high, is due to the fact that it costs nothing to download digital products. Whereas the percent paid on physical products can range from 4% to 20%, and require costly deliveries.
After you register with Clickbank as an affiliate, you can choose any product from the pool of available products to promote. There are more than twelve thousand products currently available.
The trick here is to find products that are paying a high commission of at least 50%, and is already a popular seller on CB. It's really quite simple, but requires some effort. You have two choices: do the research and make daily sales, or just choose a product by "throwing darts", otherwise called "hit and miss" and make one sale a month.
To discover the likeliest choices for CB success, start by going to the Clickbank Marketplace at http://www.clickbank.com/marketplace.htm
Once there, you can search for products by keyword, or by one category at a time. The results are listed in order of popularity on CB. So here is where you need to do some work analyzing each product that appeals to you.
The details show you the amount each sale pays to the affiliate. The percentage commission is also shown. So look for commissions that pay at least $15 or $20, and have a percent commission of 45 to 70%.
The most important factor in your selection, centers around "gravity". This is your best indicator of CB popularity. So what is a good gravity score? The only way I can answer that is by developing a feel for it after comparing several products. You will most likely find that the results at the top of your list have a gravity score over 100%
Next, you should click on "pitch page" which takes you to the item's sales page. Here, you can judge if the sales page has potential to convince the visitor to read it.
Finally, if you would like to consider promoting this Clickbank product, create the affiliate link by clicking on "create hoplink". Just enter your CB nickname that you selected when you signed up as a Clickbank affiliate. You will then see your link in two formats, firstly as plain text for use in text emails. The 2nd is the HTML code for use on a web site or html emails.
To hide, or "cloak" your new link is useful and can be easily achieved using the free services of TinyUrl at http://www.tinyurl.com
It's important that you keep a record of these links, so I suggest creating a text file with the affiliate link. Make sure you show the link before and after cloaking.
So that is the quick summary that space allows in this article. You can see now what I meant saying it will take a bit of work to research. Remember too, that the list proposed to you is sorted by popularity. This simply means that number 1 is the most popular seller in the category or keyword you called for.
From here on, your challenge is to find ways to promote your selections, but that must be for another article.
So do your homework, and you'll do well. Good luck.
