I can best sum up the greatest advice you will ever see in both good times and bad in just one sentence. You need a plan for your money.
If you live in New York City you would never jump in a cab and expect to be dropped off at your intended destination without first identifying your end point to your driver (the goal), and then letting him develop the plan. Then why do so many people do this with their money? Having a dream of becoming a millionaire is a great idea, but then you need to take it beyond the idea stage and put a plan in place to reach that goal.
Today I talked with an eighteen-year old in Maryland. He is on track this year to make over $250,000. He has a very clearly defined goal of becoming a millionaire in the next six months, but also knows just as well as you and I that he will not arrive there without a plan, and thus contacted me.
First, you need to develop your goal. Second, you need to identify what it will take to reach that goal. The third step is to put together a detailed plan of reaching your destination, step-by-step. After all, Proverbs 21:5 says “If you plan and work hard, you will have plenty; if you get in a hurry, you will end up poor.”
