Firstly, when looking for paying online surveys, take note of the web page. Does it look like it was professionally designed by a webmaster? Does it look fresh and new or does it look like it hasn't been updated in several years? These kinds of first impressions do tell a lot about the company and how committed they are likely to be to their business. Use this as one of your ways to determine which site you're going to sign up with.
Another thing to look out for are some testimonials, reviews or opinions on the site you're thinking of signing up with. Forums are one great place to get this kind of information and some review sites can provide good information as well. As long as the overwhelming majority of people have something positive to say, chances are good that there is some merit in the company.
Lastly in looking for paying online surveys, be sure that the site has dealings with the large Fortune 500 companies. These sites from my experience have proven to be reputable and to pay well. When I say Fortune 500 companies by the way, I'm talking about the likes of Nike, Dell, Walmart, Panasonic and Ebay. If a site is affiliated with those names in any way, it's a good sign.
