Job search or career search is extremely challenging today, according to the U.S. Labor Department the number of long-term unemployed (those jobless for 27 weeks or more) rose by 167,000 in September 2008, to 2.0 million, an increase of 728,000 over the past 12 months. Even during this challenging time there are many who where able to get a job easily by exerting one major key component of the job search and the one thing that matters most: marketing.



The key to finding a job in any market understand the fact that employers want to hire us so that they can be competitive and profitable by utilizing our skills. This is the simple reason why global outsourcing is booming and the simple reason for all hiring and firing in today’s complex job market.



Be a sales execute of yourself



Being a top notch sales execute for your skills is the first step you want to be when looking for a job. Successful sales execute where not born overnight, all successful sales people are focused in getting a sale by following a proven process and by being persistent.



Know the product (yourself)



First step is to take a good look at your resume, skills and soft skills you are trying to sell. Polish your resume and prepare for the common interview questions and get your self in a job search mode. Know your strengths and weakness learn to strengths and project your achievements.



Study the Market/ Know what is the need



The second step is to know what is moving in the market you can not sell anything if there is no demand for it. Study the market Spent time in job posting to see what kind of skills are posted more often that you can add to benefit .



When you study the market get all the key words that are associated to your job situation and add them to you resume. Today most of the resume picking is done through keyword matching and it is important that the key words are used liberally.



Prepare yourself ready to be sold in an hour



It is hard job to assess any one in less than 1 hour that is exactly what would happen in an interview. Keep that in mind and get yourself prepared. Don’t be offended by sarcastic comments by the interviewee (hey they will get their turn) if you look at a successful sales executive they don’t care what is been thrown at them their only goal is to sell their products. As a Job seeker we need to have the same enthusiasm as a sales executive to sell ourselves to the potential employer.



Build a funnel of prospects



This is the basic quality of a successful sales executive, build a huge funnel of prospects the funnel needs to be bigger depending on your closing skills.



If you can close a sale by calling five prospects every 5 call your prospect list need not be that big however if you can close 1 sale for every 100 calls/prospects you need to work more.



This is where we need to spend most of your time, apply for all positions both inside and outside your home town, make sure your resume is loaded with keywords associated to your job. Make cold calls to potential employers, staffing firms, and talk to your friends make it a goal to talk to at least ten employers or apply for at ten jobs.




Share only what employers wants to hear



Employers are always trying to see your compatibility to their organization try to lean about the organization and share only what they want to hear.

Prepare for interview every day



Polish your skills everyday and get your self ready for the interview, don’t be disappointed if you didn’t get a job in the first few or hundred interviews. Analyze your interviews and perform better each time, have faith that success is right around the next turn.
