Road Rage

Road rage will affect everyone at least once in their time on the road, some more than others but whether you see it or are involved in road rage, you will at some point witness a form of road rage.

What is road rage?

Road rage is a reaction to an action, generally an over reaction. It can be one of many things such as; shouting verbal abuse to another driver, aggressive pedal usage, intentionally causing a collision, hitting another driver or sometimes striking a vehicle with an object.

What causes road rage?

Road rage is never down to one action, it will take a number of ingredients combined to create a road rage reaction. Most drivers on the road today have the potential to react to an incident (road rage), with a number of traits accountable to the cause of this over reaction. These are mainly fury, selfishness, antagonism, ignorance, anger and frustration.

If a person possesses any one of these traits (which everyone does), then it will take another ingredient to bring that person to the boiling point. This can also be down to one of many things including; congestion, road works, unplanned journeys and bad driving from others.

Road rage will be caused due to any of the above factors mixing.

What can be done to avoid road rage?

• Plan your journey to avoid feeling frustrated because you're running late.
• Be polite and courteous at all times
• Take your time and drive in a relaxed state
• Never underestimate the capability of another driver
• If you are being followed, drive to the nearest police station
• Never retaliate at all times

Following these points will not only help you avoid road rage but will improve your overall manner on the road.

Most people view their car as their own personal space which would explain why many people over react when they feel their personal space is threatened. You should drive your car as you would expect others to drive their own. If you drive aggressively then you should expect others to over react to your actions.
