1) The scary ones come first. Since the occasion we’re talking about is Halloween, then it’s more appropriate for the scary ones to be the best ones. They set the Halloween mood. The headless horseman, the white lady, the walking dead, and the Egyptian mummies - these are the originals and the best costumes fit for the occasion.
2)Then there are the childish costumes. These are the usual kids’ Halloween fashion such as pumpkin heads, white blankets - which are supposed to make them look like ghosts, witches with broom sticks, and monstrous sea creatures - which actually looks cute instead of scary. Without the kids, who else would do the trick or treating? And Halloween would not be Halloween without the trick or treating and the cute costumes roaming around. That’s what makes these costumes second best on my list.
3) There are the sexy Halloween costumes: the pink bunny rabbit, the sexy nurse, the flight attendant, the short-skirted school girl, the cat-woman, and the sexy devil-woman. These are the costumes that are more appropriate for adults and teen-agers. Without these costumes, adults and teen-agers will have no reason to get involved in the occasion. Halloween, after all, should be an occasion for everyone.
4) There are the funny costumes: the clown costume - if you consider it funny, the striped mime, the hilarious celebrity impersonations, and the sarcastic political mockeries. These give some humor to the occasion, making it more lively rather than eerie and gloomy for the young ones. To me, they simply represent the joys that people derive from the occasion, all its deep meanings aside.
5) There are the costumes that portray historic individuals such as George Washington, Albert Einstein, and Abraham Lincoln. This sort of costumes, whether intended or not, shows the peoples’ pride in their history and the achievements of their ancestors. Whether people wear them merely for fun, or for laughs, I see people who have engraved themselves in history. These may be out of place when it comes to Halloween, but nevertheless they are some of the best-looking ones to me.
6) And then there are, what people would call, nerdy costumes. These are usually inspired by sci-fi movie characters and computer game characters. The best examples for such characters are Darth Vader from the movie Star Wars, Spock from the movie Star Trek, and Chun-Li from the computer game Street Fighter. Why are they called “nerdy?” This is because people are commonly classified as “nerds” if they have a rather high degree of interest in such sci-fi movies and games as the ones mentioned above. Halloween just wouldn’t seem complete without such costumes roaming around the neighborhood. That’s what makes them part of my list.
7) Lastly, there is what I classify as “fantasy.” These include mythological gods, monsters, and heroes like Thor the god of thunder, Zeus the god of the sky, and Achilles - a golden-armored Greek hero. These are part of my BEST HALLOWEEN COSTUMES simply because mythology is the core of my interest, although these would seem out of place for the occasion.
