Anaerobic means "life without air.".Anaerobic bacteria grow in places which completely, or almost completely, lack oxygen. They are normally found in the mouth, gastrointestinal tract, and vagina, and on the skin.

But for us what we feel the most about “anaerobic” is the ache when sugars are being burned without oxygen, which creates a by-product of lactic acid. This lactic acid accumulates in your muscles, causing them to ache or feel like they're burning.
