Treating Hair Loss: Knowing What To Ask

Hereditary hair loss may be cured with medicines or with medical surgery such as hair transplant. Some people choose hair replacements by wearing different hairpieces like wigs or toupees. Still, others choose to style their hair differently. Other kinds of hair replacements may also work to disguise the appearance of fallen-out hair. But if hair loss is because of stress, medicines or anything you have control over, all you have to do is to get rid of the cause. Hair loss due to hair damage and stress most often grow back after taking away the cause. But if that doesn’t help, you may then think about getting hair treatments.

Whatever treatment you may choose, there are some things to consider and questions to ask:

· What are the different available treatments?

· Which procedure has the highest probability of working?

· How long will the treatment take?

· Will the results be permanent? If only temporary, how long will it last?

· What are the risks? Will there be any side effect? Some medicines and surgery may have side effects, be sure to discuss with your doctor all possibilities.

· How much will the procedure cost? What are the terms of payments? And will my insurance cover it?

In thinking of treatment, always keep in mind that not all treatments work for everyone. Some treatments may help prevent more hair from falling out and help grow them back but there is always the possibility that you won’t get all your hair back. Generally though, hair treatments and hair replacements may boost your lowered self-esteem caused by your hair loss.
