These words ring deep into our inner being. To be able to let go of the things we have done and thought in the past is a big relief to our souls. It is possible to have a lighter and more energetic self when we release these things that have been holding us back. Let Go of the things that don’t have any realistic value in your life today.
I recently had an experience of this let go theory and this is what I have come to understand. I had a thought of an event that had happened many, many, years ago. It was not something that I consciously thought of, although it seemed to be lodged in my subconscious. One morning as I was doing some meditation this long forgotten (so I thought) event came to mind. At once I realized that although I knew there was nothing I could have done to prevent this event from happening that it also was not my fault that it had occurred. Bringing this to my new perspective of letting it go gave me a sense of comfort and clarity I had not realized before. This was surrender.
Since then I have given more thought to the Let Go principle. It is our ego that gets in our way. As Dr. Wayne Dyer states his definition of ego stands for Edge God Out. Thinking of it from this point lets us understand that if it is Divine Will and we surrender to that Will then we will have clarity, and peace and guidance. In looking at this closer the Serenity Prayer comes to mind. “God grant me the Serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things that should be changed and Wisdom to know the difference.
There are things that happen every day that we should let go of. There are the remarks, comments made to us by others or even something you are thinking of yourself. Someone may say something that you feel at the time was wrong, don’t dwell on it until it has caused a problem, get your ego out of the way. Think about what they have said and look at it from another point of view. If it serves you well then okay, if it really has no basis and there is no benefit to hold onto it, then release it and let it go. If it is not relevant to whom you are and what you are about then it does not need to stay attached to you. Release your past experiences that are holding you back from your future human potential. Only then can we mature and move forward. As Ellie Drake has been teaching “it is what it is and what’s next? Move forward with the new freedom you now have to begin a better quality of life.
I received this story from one of my dear Braveheart Women who had posted this as her blog. It seems to fit the theme of letting go.
The Law of the Garbage Truck: One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded and missed the other car by inches. The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean he was really nice. So I asked, “Why did you do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital”. This is when my taxi driver taught me the Law of the Garbage Truck. He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage (ego), full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they’ll dump it on you. Don’t take it personally. Smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don’t take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home or on the streets.
The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life is too short to wake up in the morning with regrets. So release it and LET GO.
