Intact Memories With Proper Gown Care

Don’t you take care of your Refrigerator, Television, A.C., Cooler and other household things after using them? Definitely you do, because you have spent a lot of money on them and secondly these are perennial things that are going to help you till long time period. In the same queue stand dresses too.

Forgot those exhausted days you have spent in search of that one particular dress, money, time, exertion of a mind, etc. After doing so much for something, how can one simply put it anywhere after wearing it? Is its essence and attraction is only till wearing? But do not forget that it is much more than that. So many beautiful memories are attached with your dress, like how attractive you were looking on that occasion, how captivating entry you did while walking down the aisle in your dress, looking like a princess on the dancing floor and many other emotions are attached with it. If you will seriously think about all this, surely these are going to tempt you to take care of your dress properly, so that whenever you look at your dress those pretty-pretty memories will start recounting in front of your eyes.

There are some steps following which your dress is never going to look out of date. Even it will come in use of your next generation as well. Just the need is to keep it properly. As you will come back after attending a ceremony comply these rules:

1) Keep your gown in a clean cotton sheet that should be undersized, unbleached and non-dyed. Also make sure that a cotton sheet has a little synthetic fiber.

2) Before using cotton sheet clean it with a hot water to remove any dirt. Do not use detergent.

3) Make sure not to use plastic bag to keep your gown as due to rapid oxidation acid residues can be accumulated in the fabric leading to damage of the gown.

4) Refrain your gown from the direct sunlight and damp areas.

5) In every two weeks send your gown for a dry cleaning.

This is not the end. After this starts entirely your part. Be very cautious while handling the gown, as it is your one of the greatest assets. When your gown comes back from dry cleaning, follow these guidelines:

a) Keep your gown in a box having vacuum inside it.

b) Fold your gown in an acid free tissue paper. Also put tissue paper in between the folds to prevent gown from getting wrinkles.

c) Keep metal buttons, pins separately, as sometimes metal can get oxidized and leave stain on the fabric.

d) Keep box in a cool dry place away from impurities, dust and smoke.

e) Take gown out in certain interval of time period, just for checking its status.

These are all storage instructions. But still some general instructions are left that need to be taken care of, to avoid any kind of mini mistakes. In today’s time it’s not difficult to get a dress of choice but to take care of it is the tedious task. It also includes:

I) Before ironing the gown, first tries it on some other cloth, also do not press on the front side.

II) If your gown has work of beads, sequins or embroidery on it, great care should be taken. Instruct your dry cleaner properly to prevent gown from deteriorating the beauty of embellishments.

III) If your gown is of taffeta, do not iron it. It can leave a mark.

IV) Wash and dry your hands thoroughly before touching or handling your gown once it has been preserved. Cotton gloves are highly preferred.

V) If stain occurs never rub your dress. Conceal the stain either by blotting it or use white powder above it.


It is for sure that all these instructions are going to be your torchbearer. To have the knowledge of gown care will also increase your enjoyment level. As it will draw your attention from your gown and will make you busy with friends and relatives. Do not engross yourself so much with your dress that it becomes hindrance in the way of your enjoyment.
