Effective Therapy For Conjunctivitis

This is an eye disease, also called red eye, with sudden onset of blood congestion and increase of secretion in the eyes, aversion to hotness, photophobia, lacrimation, pain and itching. It can be divided into 2 types: Patients with wind-heat type may suffer from redness, dryness, itching, hatred of hotness, photophobia, lacrimation, white, thin and dry tongue coating and floating rapid pulse; and patients with excessive toxic-heat type may suffer from apparent redness, swelling, pain and hotness of the eyes, photophobia, headache and sticky gum in the canthi of the eyes.

It corresponds to acute catarrhal conjunctivitis and epidemic hemorrhagic conjunctivitis in Western medicine.

Recipe 1: Peel of immature tangerine 15 g, chrysanthemum 25 g and mulberry leaf 20 g.
Administration: A decoction of the above materials is drunk twice a day.
Indication: This recipe can dispel wind and clear heat pathogens to treat red eye of wind-heat type.

Recipe 2: An adequate amount of water chestnuts.
Administration: The water chestnuts are washed and peeled for oral intake, 4-5 water chestnuts are pounded to prepare a paste for application to the eyes, 3 times per day,and the juice of the water chestnuts may be used as an eyedrop.

Recipe 3: One pear and an adequate amount of Huanglian (golden thread root).
Administration: The seeds of the pear are removed, and the Huanglian is put into the cavity of the pear, which is then soaked in boiled water. The extract of pear and Huanglian is used as an eyedrop.
Indication: This method is used to treat red eye of excessive toxic-heat type.

Recipe 4: Tremella 30 g, tea leaf 5 g and crystal sugar 50 g.
Administration: The above materials are boiled to make a soup for oral intake of tremella with soup once a day.
Indication: This recipe is used to treat red eye of wind-heat type
