California Fishing

Fishing is most definitely one of THE pastimes in California, and it's almost certain that people will come from all over the place in order to indulge in this activity. It's just that the climate, the weather, and the general proximity to the ocean of the area lends itself so well to the necessary conditions for an ideal fishing experience (whether you are a hobbyist or a full-blown pro). We're sure that you'd like to have a go at it as well. But you must remember that it is essential to know the fishing laws, rules, and regulations of an area before you indulge in any fishing. That being set, we would like to, at the very least, outline the very general guidelines of fishing in California.

1.Be reminded that you will need a California fishing license in order to be able to fish in the State. You are also advised that there are different licenses for different California fish (freshwater vs. saltwater), as well as methods of catching the fish (recreational or sport). It may seem tedious, but it is for the protection of the waters of California so that your children may be able to enjoy fishing in the same areas you fished in. You can get these licenses from the California Fish and Game Department – log on to their website for more details.
2.Be advised that you are only allowed to fish in designated places – you cannot fish just ANYWHERE. Before you jump into fishing in California, know which places allow you to fish and are best for your ideal fishing trip. You can go for lakes, or you can wade over to beaches like the Zmudowski State Beach. Just remember to do your research.
3.There are also restrictions on the type of gear that you bring, and as such, you must also call the spot AHEAD OF TIME in order to make the necessary arrangements. Don't worry, your questions will most definitely be accommodated by the persons in charge.
4.Be aware of the fish seasons in the area you wish to visit for your fishing trip. You wouldn't want to not catch anything at all, do you? For you to catch fish, there has to BE fish. And they aren't necessarily there all the time.
5.It is vitally important that you know the daily bag limit and the size limit of the different fish you are allowed to catch in California. In fact, you must know WHICH fish are allowed to be bagged, and which fish are to be thrown back. All the information you need are posted on the official website of the California Fish and Game Department. If you find it difficult to do so, have someone who is running the facilities or who is familiar with the California Fishing and Game Laws with you for questions. Be advised that these guidelines can be subject to change.

Keeping these in mind, there should be no reason for you to not enjoy your California fishing vacation.
