Starting off with something easy to grow is a good idea. You do not want to get too complicated when it is your first year at gardening. You should start your garden off small and then you can work your way up. Some plants you can grow close by together but some will require you to keep them apart.
Tomatoes are plants that need to have a lot of room to grow. You never want to place broccoli and tomatoes together. You can still plant the both of them but you should keep them as far apart in the garden as possible. Some plants just need a lot of space to spread out and thrive.
You are going to be responsible for a lot when you have a garden. You need to give your plants attention everyday. If you are not able to spend everyday in the garden you will need to make it there at least every other day. You need to pull weeds and give your plants the water and the nutrients that they need.
Remember to water all plants at the base because if the leaves get wet, this can cause them to rot. When it rains of course you cannot help this from happening. However you do not want to over water your plants. Keep an eye on the weather so you know when you should water and when you should let Mother Nature handle it.
Move your vegetables around in the garden from one year to the next. You should not plant them in the same place year after year because this will cause the soil to become diseased. You want to keep the soil as healthy as possible so that you are able to give your plants the best possible growing experience that you can.
