Nearly 30 ex-employees have joined together to gain justice for the way they were treated. Tony Ammons says after 21 years of loyal service, during which he earned quite a reputation for himself as an expert upholsterer, he was unfairly dismissed. The dismissal came the day he was due to sort through a huge backlog of compensation forms filed by workers who had suffered injuries on the job.
A. Cameron Sycamore started experiencing severe pain in his wrists working on the frame assembly. He was switched to upholstery of sofas where he began to experience shoulder pain. After a total of four operations for his injuries the company fired him.
An unsafe work environment contributed to the injuries received by workers. Rails meant to stand alone were stacked four high and incorrectly managed industrial staples caused cutting injuries.
Lawyers are seeking to have the case treated as class action, allowing the 30 ex-employees to file a joint complaint against La-Z-Boy. All of these 30 workers state that they were injured on the job, after which the company harassed them and eventually fired them.
La-Z-Boy worked with its third party adjuster to deny compensation to workers and refuse treatment. Injured workers were not given adequate time off to recover from their injuries, thus further aggravating injuries.
