Now I am not mentioning this because I am thinking of becoming a Mills & Boon style author. I am mentioning this because this article is about shared experience and opening your heart.
Breathing in synchronization with another is the ultimate in physical oneness and on that Sunday we breathed in synchrony constantly. Well, how about doing this anytime, even when you are not together.
I want to share with you a simple technique to learn how to breathe with your entire body and how to share that total body breathing with another inside your mind for one truly amazing internal experience.
The main aim of this technique is that it brings forth a sense of euphoria, deep relaxation and physical feelings that are maybe not experienced as much as we would like in our daily lives.
Ok, so just follow these simple steps:
Step One: In the comfortable place you have chosen, sat with your arms and legs uncrossed and not touching each other, take a slightly deeper breath and as you exhale it slowly, allow your eyes to close and imagine stepping inside your mind. To really make the most of this technique, go get my self-hypnosis book and learn how to take yourself into a deep hypnotic trance at will. Alternatively, get settled, just tune in to the moment, notice the thoughts you are thinking and just be an observer of your experience.
Without directing your mind in any way, just engage in the moment and watch your thoughts, hear the sounds and engage in that moment while you settle.
Step Two: Breathe deeply. When I say breathe deeply, this is not necessarily a bigger or a larger breath, it is a deeper one – imagine it relaxing you, be aware of it, tune into it. As you inhale deeply, begin at your feet, and then breathe in through every pore of your body, all the way up to the top of your head. Really tune in to every moment of that inhalation and enjoy it.
Really imagine breathing in through every pore of your body working your way up through your body with your awareness as you slowly inhale.
Allow yourself to then feel relaxed throughout your entire body as you then breathe out through each pore right down to your toes. So you inhale with your awareness coming up from your toes, in through each and every pore. Then you exhale, just as slowly, from the top of your head toward your toes, out through each pore. Get the breathing nice and rhythmic, steady and as slow as it comfortably can be.
This is essentially body breathing. Using your internal dialogue, tell yourself that you are more relaxed with each inhalation and exhalation.
Take all the time that you need to really tune in to the fact that you are breathing with your entire body. Some people just spend their time doing only this and enjoying breathing with their body.
Step Three: Once you have spent enough time really getting tuned in to this sensation of breathing with your body, you are going to use your imagination. Do your best to imagine these things and keep focused on your breathing too.
Simply find yourself in nature in a place that you feel safe, comfortable and at ease. It can be somewhere you have been to in real life, imagined, or created in your mind. I like to imagine standing on top of a hill in clean, fresh, lush green grass that’s about a foot high. You can adapt this to whatever is best for you and be creative, however, maybe to get yourself going with this technique, you can follow the structure I am giving here.
Gently lie down in the tall, deep green grass and stretch out in whatever way you feel most comfortable and safe. As you descend to the ground, you notice the grass creates a perfectly shaped opening that separates to make room for your body. Just imagine lying flat on your back in this special space. Then imagine and notice that the long, fresh grass all around you begins to lean and bend forward and covers you. Imagine the wonderful smell of new life and new beginnings and engage your senses with this natural sensation. Just get yourself comfortably, peacefully covered in this blanket of grass. Imagine that it feels nurturing and caring and that it is soft on your body.
Then, while your imagination is engaged in this, take some time to just body breathe in nature. Breathing inward and upward through every pore and downward and outward again through every pore. Enjoy and relish each moment of doing this and spend as long as you want to doing this.
Step Four: From this place of deep relaxation, notice there is a figure standing at your feet. Imagine and notice the figure of a person. It can be any person that you feel comfortable sharing your body breathing with – it can even be another you! It can be anyone whatsoever, alive or dead that you are happy to share some intimacy with.
Imagine and allow the grass to reopen and accept this person who kneels down beside you. Then simply and kindly spread your arms far apart, welcoming and embracing this person and allow the grass to cover you both like a blanket.
Step Five: You both body breathe. Both of you, breathing simultaneously, in complete synchrony you each inhale upward through every pore of your body. As you inhale, imagine that you feel a wave coming up through your pores from your feet. This wave begins to flow up through your body to your head and then descends back down again when you start your exhalation.
Imagine that the breath weaves between your bodies, going through every pore on the way down. Inhale again, through every pore, feeling a sensation over the entire length of your beautiful body. From the top of your head, down through your neck, your shoulders, your arms, every pore, your chest, your abdomen, your hips, your legs, your feet. Spend some time to truly enjoy whatever personal sensations you experience.
When the wave of your joint breath reaches your feet, you begin your inhalation, and the wave comes back again as you feel the breath through every pore, coming upward through your entire body. You notice that the person breathes in unison with you.
Step Six: Take this a step further now. Imagine that you are both inhaling each other through your pores so that the two of you become one. Really become one with that person. The wave of breath, comes up through both of your bodies at the same time, the same wave, up to the head. On the exhalation, the wave descends down though both of your bodies at the same time. You become united in a loving way, in a forgiving way.
This does not have to be just someone you are intimate with, it can be someone that you need to understand, or forgive, or learn from or someone you want to share something deep with. Anything that has happened between the two of you in the past has been released. It is of no concern. This is a great way to get over an argument you may have had with someone so that you are starting afresh now and letting go of that argument.
As of right now you are in the present and this is the only time of existence that matters. The importance of life is right here, right now as you both breathe together through every pore of your bodies. If you want to be, you and that person are in love in this moment, you are accepting and forgiving. Just imagine that the two of you lie quietly just breathing with your entire bodies.
Take as much time as you like doing this.
Step Seven: It is now time to say farewell for now to this person. Just know that both of you can meet again whenever you wish. As the figure fades away, you stretch and smile. When you are ready you may open your eyes and continue breathing through every pore of your body.
Just get connected with the place you are in again, become aware of your fingers and toes and go about your day feeling truly connected with yourself and energized.
